What was meant to be a kitchen renovation quickly revealed major structural problems: mould in the basement, plus asbestos and vermiculite in the roof insulation. Groupe Cartier took charge of the entire project, from certified decontamination through to complete interior design, delivering a fully reimagined home in St-Lambert.
Some projects begin with a kitchen to rethink. This one quickly revealed a very different reality.
As soon as the work began, the Groupe Cartier team uncovered major mould problems in the basement, along with asbestos and vermiculite in the roof insulation. Two issues that demand immediate, rigorous and certified intervention.
Rather than working around the problem, Groupe Cartier made the only sensible call: start over from the ground up. This was no longer a renovation, it was a complete rebirth of the home.
A complete decontamination was carried out, including the safe removal of the vermiculite and asbestos found in the roof insulation. The roof insulation was then entirely redone to current standards.
Once the foundations were made sound, the real design work could begin. The interior layout was completely rethought to improve flow and maximize natural light in every room. The kitchen even changed location within the home, a bold decision that transformed the occupants’ daily experience.
The Miralis laminate cabinets deliver a clean, durable and contemporary finish. The Cosentino quartz countertops, selected and installed by Granite Création, add a refined, hygienic surface that perfectly complements the understated lines of the cabinetry.
Relocating the kitchen to the heart of the home has made it the family’s true gathering place.
The custom Miralis bathroom cabinetry follows the same design signature as the kitchen: clean lines, quality materials, flawless execution. The glazing and partitions by Vitrerie BV bring a bright architectural touch. The in-floor heating integrated with Schluter systems ensures optimal comfort, even in the depths of a Québec winter.
The staircase is often the first architectural feature you notice when you walk into a home. The steel railings, custom-fabricated by the Groupe Cartier team, become a genuine style statement.
A refined, precise industrial structure that speaks perfectly to the softer finishes throughout the rest of the space and anchors the visual identity of the entire home.
The basement, once weakened by moisture and mould, is now a healthy, bright and fully functional living space. After the certified decontamination, the slab and subfloor were rebuilt from scratch.
The Alumcomplete partition doors make it possible to create an enclosed office while preserving the visual flow of the space, the ideal solution for families who work from home.
